In this virtual demo, you will learn to make a King Cake—two different ways!
This demo will be recorded and sent out after class; feel free to sit back and relax and enjoy the show as you learn two versions of the quintessential Mardi Gras centerpiece dessert.
First, the original and elegant French version made with flaky puff pastry and filled with frangipane. Get the slice with the whole almond inside and you’re crowned king (or queen) of the party. We’ll show you how to make frangipane from scratch, assemble the cake, and the completed, fully-baked result.
Second, the more recognized New Orleans version made with a tender sweet dough and drizzled with green, yellow, and purple icing. Receive the slice with the plastic baby, and good luck is yours. We’ll show you how to assemble the cake and ice the completed, fully-baked cake.
You’ll receive the recipes for all components of both cakes, including the ones we won’t have time to demonstrate in class, like our puff pastry and sweet dough. Try your hand at making them on your own, or join us for our Palmiers & Puff Pastry and/or Cinn-ful Cinnamon Rolls class if you’d like to learn how to make puff pastries or sweet dough, respectively.
